Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center

A museum of upper Great Lakes commercial shipping.

 

The museum is operated by the Army Corps of Engineers and supported by LSMMA. Admission is free of charge.

 

Hours: 10:30 am to 4:30 pm

Discover the rich history of the Great Lakes Navigation System through interactive exhibits and immersive displays. Learn about the shipping industry and the vital role of the Duluth-Superior Harbor in regional commerce and transportation.

Exhibits and Attractions


Highlights include a replica ship pilothouse, three cabin replicas, a two-story steam engine, and 50 detailed scale models. The tugboat USACE Bayfield is displayed outdoors on the museum lawn, offering a unique glimpse into maritime operations.



Real-Time Ship Information


Visitors can access live ship arrival and departure times via museum monitors.


This feature enhances the experience, allowing guests to track Great Lakes freighters as they navigate the Duluth harbor.

Admission and Support


The museum and grounds are federally owned and open to all visitors free of charge. Donations to the Lake Superior Marine Museum Association support maintenance, new exhibits, acquisitions, and staffing.

The Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center is committed to accessibility. The facility is wheelchair accessible, and staff are available to assist visitors with special needs. Please contact the museum in advance to arrange accommodations.
