The Lake Superior Maritime Collections
The Lake Superior Maritime Collections are located at the University of Wisconsin–Superior in the Jim Dan Hill Library, located at 907 North 19th Street. For more information, contact the library archivist, Laura Jacobs, at 715-394-8359 or via email at email@example.com.
The Lake Superior Maritime Collections Archives (LSMCA) seeks to build a research collection of high quality by identifying, collecting, preserving, and providing access to materials that tell the story of maritime history and activities relating to communities surrounding Lake Superior and the upper Great Lakes. As an integral part of the teaching and research functions of the University of Wisconsin-Superior, the LSMCA supports research in the study of aquatic biology and the environment, transportation and logistics, and the local maritime history of the Twin Ports of Duluth and Superior.
The LSMCA contains unique resources for the study of maritime history on the upper Great Lakes. The focus of the Collection is primarily on Lake Superior and its environs, and the work of the Corps of Engineers office in Duluth, Minnesota. Additional emphases of the Collection also extend, because of the international nature of trade, to the lower Great Lakes and beyond. These sources are intended to support University of Wisconsin-Superior faculty and student research, as well as the needs of the Lake Superior Maritime Visitors Center, and the broader communities of the Twin Ports and Maritime historians and hobbyists.
